Nylon suitcase

Along with leather, nylon is the classic suitcase material. Nylon is very tear-resistant, durable, water-repellent and, as a synthetic material, also safe from moths. The decisive factor for the tear resistance of nylon sets is yarn thickness, which is specified in denier (den). A higher thread strength, such as 1680D, is significantly more tear-resistant than lower strengths such as 600D. Nylon cases went out of fashion for a while because neither they nor their contents are adequately protected. Nylon can wear down and a hard shell protects the contents of the suitcase from destruction much better than soft luggage. However, the big advantage and one reason for the resurgence of nylon is its low weight, which is lower than all hard shells. Nowadays, traveling mostly means flying and with a permitted cargo weight of 20-30kg, every kilogram counts. Further advantages of nylon as soft luggage are the increased suitability for trunk space (compressible), as well as the possibility of sewing on additional outside pockets and extra compartments.
